Multiple NBA franchises — including the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New York Knicks — are reportedly exploring trade possibilities for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant. According to ESPN, the Suns and Durant are actively discussing potential scenarios as the veteran forward heads into the final year of his current contract.
Durant, who will turn 37 at the start of the 2025–26 season, is entering the last season of a four-year agreement worth $194.2 million. Despite battling calf and ankle issues that limited him to 62 games last season, Durant still delivered strong numbers — averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.
His efficiency remained elite, with shooting splits of 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc, and 83.9% from the free-throw line. He also secured his 15th career All-Star selection earlier in the season.
Sources indicate that the Suns and Durant are cooperating on finding an ideal landing spot, with Houston emerging as a notable potential destination. Reports from The Athletic’s Kelly Iko and Sam Amick suggest Durant has shown a clear interest in joining the Rockets.
According to ESPN
Suns officials and Durant’s business partner, Boardroom CEO Rich Kleiman, will continue to meet on trade conversations — with talks expected to escalate before the NBA draft later this month.
Durant was nearly traded to the Golden State Warriors at the February 2025 trade deadline before he made it clear that he was not interested in a reunion and preferred to finish the season with the Suns. At the time, sources told ESPN that Durant was blindsided by the Suns including him in any trade conversations. This time around, the sides are expected to work together on his next home.
Houston holds substantial future draft assets from Phoenix, which could be used as trade leverage. However, there’s still uncertainty about how much the Rockets are willing to offer in return for the aging star.
Given Durant’s $54.7 million salary for next season, any team acquiring him would need to match that figure in outgoing contracts. While Houston appears to be the most prominently linked, other teams — and possibly some surprise contenders — have reportedly inquired about Durant over the past week.
With his desire to join a title-contending roster becoming more apparent, speculation continues to grow that Durant may be on the move this offseason. Though no deal is imminent, momentum around a potential trade continues to build across the league.
