The Cincinnati Bengals and Hamilton County reach a tentative $470 million agreement to upgrade Paycor Stadium, extending the team’s stay for at least 11 more years.
CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bengals and Hamilton County have reached a preliminary agreement to invest $470 million into upgrades at Paycor Stadium, aiming to modernize the facility and ensure the NFL team remains in Cincinnati for at least another decade.
Announced on Thursday, the tentative deal still awaits final approval from both the Bengals’ front office and the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners. However, it marks a significant step forward in securing the team’s future in the Queen City.
Originally slated to expire in June 2026, the Bengals’ current lease at Paycor Stadium could now be extended through 2036 under the new terms. A potential further extension could push the agreement to June 2046, according to a county spokesperson.
The Bengals have called Paycor Stadium home since it opened in August 2000, replacing their previous venue, Riverfront Stadium. The 66,000-seat venue, initially known as Paul Brown Stadium, was constructed at a cost of $455 million and was regarded as one of the NFL’s most advanced stadiums when it opened.
Although the facility was initially envisioned as a shared complex with Major League Baseball’s Cincinnati Reds, the Reds ultimately chose to construct their own venue—Great American Ball Park—adjacent to the football stadium.
Under the terms of the new renovation deal, Hamilton County will contribute $350 million toward the overhaul, while the Bengals will invest $120 million. Both parties plan to pursue additional financial support from the state to help fund the improvements. Specific details on the renovation scope have not yet been made public.
While the June 30 deadline to agree to a new lease or trigger a two-year extension was approaching, both sides agreed to pause the clock to finalize terms. This collaboration reflects a broader mutual interest in preserving the Bengals’ longstanding presence in Cincinnati.
